Photonic Red Light Therapy
In 1903, Niels Ryberg Finsen won The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his contribution in treatment of diseases, especially lupus vulgaris, with concentrated light radiation in 1895. With this, he opened a new avenue for medical science. In 1893, Finsen devised a treatment for small pox in red light. He published many documents on the topic, the most notable ones were “The effects of light on the skin” (1893) and “The use of concentrated chemical light rays in medicine" (1896).
A Photonic Red Light emits 630 - 680 nm of light. This wavelength is able to penetrate through the epidermis (outer skin) to the tissue below (the dermis) which consists of collagen, elastin reticular fibres and contains hair follicles, blood vessels and nerve endings, sebaceous glands. Once red light has penetrated the dermis it is converted into ATP (adenosine triphosphates which is a nucleoside triphosphate used in cells as a coenzyme often called the “molecular unit of currency” of intracellular energy transfer). "Tribute to the humble RED LIGHT. Over the years Elka has treating our horses with Red Light and after purchasing a torch I have come to know how helpful it is in the treatment and recovery of injuries for everyone.
